This is a 5 stage race in Saudi Arabia and is one of the first races of the season for any GC contenders. Despite this not many of the big names are present as stage races over in Spain may be more important or the races overlap with training for larger races such as the Giro.

The jerseys available to be won do not differ much form other races with the only difference being that there is no king of the mountains jersey as they are not going up mountains high enough for it to be worth contesting at the summit for, instead the stages are all classed as hilly rather than flat or mountain stages. As of 2025 there have been 8 editions Past winners of the race include Simon Yates in 2024, Ruben Guerreiro in 2023 and Maxim Van Gils in 2022. The remaining years in which the race happened are 2020, 2002, 2001 and 1999. The race did not come under the category of 2.1 until the 2020 edition.
