Vuelta 2026 Week 2

Stage 10 marked the start of the second week of the Vuelta and it came down to a sprint finish after an early attack that unfortunately didn't make it to the end of the race before being caught. The stage was won by Bastien Tronchon with the green jersey wearer coming in 4th place. Unsurprisingly there was no change in the general classification with all the riders crossing safely together.

Another sprint stage followed with there being 1 category 3 climb that did nothing to change the outcome of the stage. The GC riders crossed together after the sprinters with Matthew Brennan winning another stage of the race. His teammate remained the one wearing green.

Stage 12 was one for the breakaway which formed after 40km. The GC riders started attacking each other before the line but the break had enough of a gap to take the stage honours. Santiago Buitrago was looking good but was only able to finish in 3rd place. The young Slovenian rider of Jakob Omrzel took the stage solo winning by over 1 minute. Enric Mas was able to take 27 seconds over his rivals.

Another hilly stage followed and the break were given another chance, 43 riders were able to form a gap and it became clear that they would take it to the line. After numerous late attacks by riders from the group Wout van Aert and Valentin Paret-Peintre took it to the line with van Aert winning. His lead in the points classification grew to 65 over his teammate.

Stage 14 was another mountain stage and another day for the break despite there being GC action further down. Santiago Buitrago was hunting for KOM points and finished the stage in 2nd. 1st place went to Marco Brenner who won his first grand tour stage and the first for Tudor Pro Cycling team adding to the list of firsts at the Vuelta this year. Enric Mas and Felix Gall were both able to put time into Primoz Roglic who will have a good chance at gaining it back in the time trail on stage 18. Felix Gall now sits in second on GC having gained enough time to push Roglic down to third. Stage 15 was another win for Visma with Wout van Aert taking the stage and with it more points to extend his lead in the points classification. He was able to catch the break and pulled a few other riders with him in the final moments of the stage but turned out to be the strongest in the group.
